Welcome to Mahamevnawa Melbourne

Nestled amid tranquil natural surroundings, Mahamevnawa Melbourne invites all to discover a different way of life — one of clarity, compassion, and inner awakening. Rooted in the ancient Dhamma tradition, our monastery manifests a living bridge between timeless wisdom and modern life.

Through meditation, moral cultivation, and community, this sanctuary offers a haven for self-reflection, spiritual growth, and a deeper sense of harmony in daily life.

Roots & Origins:
A Heritage of Light

Mahamevnawa was founded in Sri Lanka in August 1999 by Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero, with the aspiration of reviving clear, accessible Dhamma practice grounded in the original teachings of the Buddha.

In 2010, the Melbourne branch was formally established as a registered charity in Victoria, creating a new home for meditation, study, and community life in Australia.

Today, Mahamevnawa Melbourne stands as both a spiritual refuge and a living bridge — connecting ancient lineage with modern seekers, upholding tradition with openness, and continuing the mission to share timeless wisdom in our own land.
