Living the Dhamma Through Service

At Mahamevnawa Melbourne, community service is deeply rooted in the spirit of dāna (generosity), sīla (virtue), and bhāvanā (mental development). Our Buddhist services nurture both spiritual and cultural growth creating a supportive environment where individuals and families can practice, learn, and live according to the teachings of the Buddha.

Regular meditation sessions and Dhamma discussions are open to all who seek inner peace and clarity. Programs include guided breathing meditation (ānāpānasati), insight meditation (vipassanā), chanting, and sermons that make the teachings practical for modern life.

Participants are encouraged to attend as often as they wish no prior experience is needed. Visit the Programs and Events for more information.

Our Sunday School provides children and youth with the opportunity to learn the Buddha’s teachings in an age-appropriate, engaging way. Classes include lessons on meditation, moral values, storytelling, and Sinhala language. The program helps young people develop mindfulness, compassion, and respect for life — strengthening both their spiritual foundation and cultural identity.

Mahamevnawa Buddhist Meditation Monastery of Melbourne actively participates in community service through programs like Blood Donation and Clean Up Day as part of the Thawathinsa Yathra charity initiatives. These programs are organised to support the wider community and promote wholesome, compassionate action in line with the teachings of the Buddha. Participation in these activities helps cultivate generosity and concern for the welfare of society.
